20 Abandoned Wood Burning Stoves

by admin on November 20, 2009

When cheap gas and oil became available, wood stoves were carted out to the yard and abandoned.

These 20 antique wood stoves are a part of American history so its only right that we remember them.

1. Benson County Stove

Northern Benson County stove

An abandoned farmhouse in Northern Benson County, ND.

The old stove is still standing in the same space it occupied for decades – maybe even a century. . How many fires has it held? How much history has this stove witnessed? Who called this place home? Where are they now?

2. Gutted Tile Stove

Exploring this old abandoned house was an experience that won’t soon be forgotten. This was probably one of the creepiest places on earth.
This tile stove is from the bigger house. It is not in very good shape now.

The Smith family had a wood burning stove in their kitchen. I don’t know why they did this or what their intentions were, but I would definitely not recommend wrapping this extension cord around this or any stove.

The ornate design on this old stove takes one back to memories of the old cast iron radiators that heated homes from the Victorian era. Some of those radiators are even still in use today in older homes.

12. School House Stove

This one has got to be one of my favourites. It reminds me of the stories my Dad told us about the mid-western one room school house he used to attend. Lopsided worn out wooden floors… tongue and groove walls with faded peeling paint … No doubt his school looked a lot like this one but I bet it was a lot smaller.

I was bold enough to take a look inside this old stove. Before doing so, I braced myself and was completely prepared to be confronted by a snake or a rat. Thank goodness, all that i found there was garbage, paper and plastic that simply didn’t burn before the last fire went out.

And we always thought that Fisher stoves weren’t made before the 1900’s. Or were we right and it just rusted really fast?
