The long cylindrical metal tube that allows air and particulate (smoke particles) to escape are known as wood stove pipes. If you are going to buy a wood stove pipe then you have to go for the right one. Basically, there are two types, venting and vent free. You need to go with the best one after determining your needs.
Follow our 8 step guide during you wood stove pipe installation:
1. Distance: While installing a wood stove pipe keep at least 36 inches distance from the wall. You have to drill a hole on your wall with the same diameter of the wood stove.
2. Use chimney liners: Although it is possible to go with stovepipes that pass through closets, ceilings, or outside a building, there are certain risks involved in it. So, it is a good idea to purchase quality chimney liners to prevent heat and smoke problems because they constitute a fire risk.
3. Not to be used outside: It is dangerous if the wood pipe is placed out of a window and up the outside wall of a house. It creates rapid creosote build-up because these pipes can cool more efficiently than a prefabricated metal chimney.
4. Keep combustible material away: It is very important to place combustive material at a distance from the stove because it can cause a fire risk. It is useful to conduct a test to see if the combustive material reacts when placed near the stove.
5. Protect from heat: Create 3 1/2 inch brick wall around the edges of the wall because it would fight against the possible heat damage.
6. No less than 9 inches: A factory made pipe should be installed in to the wall and the distance between the exterior wall and outside chimney cap should be no less than 9 inches.
7. Use steel and make air tight: Make the final connections to the stove using a steel connector sleeve. Do make sure there is no air leakage.
8. Check, check and recheck: Always check you stove annually so you can protect yourself from any possible risk.
